Code of Conduct

Friends of La Jolla Elementary (“Friends”) is committed to creating welcoming, inclusive, safe, and enjoyable events that reflect the values of our school community. By attending or participating in any Friends-sponsored event, all guests—including parents, guardians, family members, students, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and attendees—agree to the following Code of Conduct.

Friends of La Jolla Elementary (“Friends”) is committed to creating welcoming, inclusive, safe, and enjoyable events that reflect the values of our school community. By attending or participating in any Friends-sponsored event, all guests—including parents, guardians, family members, students, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and attendees—agree to the following Code of Conduct.

1. COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS

All attendees are expected to:

  • Treat all students, families, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community members with kindness, respect, and courtesy.
  • Help foster a positive, family-friendly environment at all times.
  • Respect school property, event venues, vendor property, and the belongings of others.
  • Follow all event rules, venue policies, safety procedures, and instructions provided by Friends board members, volunteers, school staff, and event personnel.
  • Supervise children appropriately and ensure student behavior remains respectful and safe.

2. POLITICAL & CAUSE BASED TOPICS

Friends events are intended to support the school community and fundraising efforts in a positive and inclusive environment.

  • Political discussions, campaigning, advocacy, solicitation, demonstrations, or distribution of political materials are not permitted at Friends events.
  • Cause-based initiatives of any kind are not allowed.
  • Conversations or conduct that create division, hostility, intimidation, or discomfort within the community may result in removal from the event.
  • Harassment, discrimination, bullying, hate speech, threats, or inappropriate conduct of any kind will not be tolerated.

3. BEHAVIOR & CONDUCT STANDARDS

The following behaviors are prohibited at all Friends events:

  • Aggressive, disruptive, abusive, or unsafe behavior
  • Harassment or intimidation of attendees, volunteers, staff, or vendors
  • Excessive intoxication or substance-related misconduct
  • Physical altercations or threatening behavior
  • Inappropriate language or behavior in the presence of children
  • Unauthorized sales, promotion, solicitation, or fundraising
  • Posting or sharing content intended to harm, embarrass, or misrepresent attendees, students, volunteers, or the organization

4. AUTHORITY OF FRIENDS BOARD & EVENT LEADERSHIP

Friends of La Jolla Elementary reserves the right to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all attendees.

  • At any time and for any reason deemed necessary to protect the integrity, safety, or atmosphere of an event, a member of the Friends Board, event committee, or designated event leadership may ask an attendee or student to modify their behavior.
  • Friends leadership may remove any attendee or student from an event without refund or further warning if conduct is determined to be disruptive, inappropriate, unsafe, or inconsistent with this Code of Conduct.
  • Repeated violations may impact eligibility to attend or participate in future Friends-sponsored events.

All decisions made by Friends event leadership regarding event conduct and participation are final.

5. SOCIAL MEDIA & PRIVACY

We encourage families to share and celebrate our events respectfully.

By attending a Friends event, attendees acknowledge that photographs and videos may be taken for school, fundraising, marketing, or social media purposes. Friends will make reasonable efforts to honor school-related media restrictions on file.

Attendees are expected to:

  • Respect the privacy and comfort of students and families
  • Avoid posting content intended to shame, target, or negatively portray members of the school community

6. ALCOHOL & ADULT EVENTS

For events where alcohol is served:

  • Guests must consume alcohol responsibly.
  • No underage drinking is permitted.
  • Friends and venue staff reserve the right to refuse service to any attendee.
  • Attendees are expected to arrange safe transportation if consuming alcohol.

7. ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Attendance at any Friends of La Jolla Elementary event constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of this Code of Conduct.
